The station's clock, not your phone's

A Mac in New York was already on Sunday while the dock in Seattle was still on Saturday. Three hours apart, both correct, and only one of them is the tide's. Tide Buddy shows each station's own local time, so the times you read match the printed table at that spot rather than the clock in your pocket.

Nothing to leak

Tide Buddy has no accounts, no analytics SDKs, and no stored location or personal data. Location is used only for “nearby,” only in the moment, and only if you ask. What was never collected can never be lost.

Is it really free?
Yes, and more than you might expect. Everything you need to check the tide is free forever, with no ads and no account, including the 30-day offline cache and alerts before each high and low. The four things Pro adds are listed in full under pricing.
How accurate are the predictions?
Tide Buddy shows official tidal predictions from NOAA and the Canadian Hydrographic Service: astronomical calculations of the tide based on the moon and sun. They're the same figures printed in tide tables. Real water levels can still be pushed higher or lower by wind, storms, and atmospheric pressure, which predictions don't include. Treat them as a reliable plan for the day, not a real-time gauge.
Can I use it for boating or navigation?
No, and we won't pretend otherwise. Tide Buddy is for beachgoers, surfers, clammers, dog-walkers and photographers deciding when to head out. It is not a navigation-grade instrument and shouldn't be used for safety-of-life decisions on the water. For that, use official charts and marine services.
Does it really work with no signal?
Yes. Because tide predictions are computed from astronomy rather than fetched live, Tide Buddy keeps 30 days of them on your phone, on the free tier, and goes on working the tide out locally. You'll always see how fresh the cached data is.
Which stations are supported?
Thousands of stations across the United States and Canada: NOAA CO-OPS stations in the US, and Canadian Hydrographic Service stations in Canada. Search by beach or town name, or use your location to find the closest ones. Heights are shown against each source's own datum and never silently converted.
Do you track me or sell my data?
No. There are no accounts, no analytics SDKs, and no advertising. Location, if you grant it, is used transiently to find nearby stations and is never stored or transmitted. Details are in the privacy policy.
Is there an iPhone version?
Yes, and it's built alongside Android rather than ported afterwards, so both get the same tide engine and the same Pro unlock. iPhone adds Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets and an Apple Watch app; Android adds Wear OS and an ongoing lock-screen tide. Both are in internal testing right now and neither is public yet, which is why there are no store badges on this page. Leave your email and we'll tell you when each one lands.
